Why FOP?

Our most important asset is our members; we are a ground-up organization which means our members' voices are what sets the direction of our future.  We are comprised of a diverse group of police officers, deputy sheriffs, detention officers, state troopers, state and federal agencies, administrative staff, and supporters of law enforcement.  The uniforms we wear may be different but our goal is the same - to serve and protect the community.

The FOP is an organization of cops representing cops with a united voice within Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  We work together for better wages, benefits, working conditions, and legislation that makes our communities safer.

The FOP provides numerous benefits and services to our members, which include:

  • legal, civil, and administrative representation

  • college discounts

  • scholarships (includes family members)*

  • financial assistance*

  • disaster relief

  • line of duty death benefits

  • training courses

  • mental health resources (includes family members)*

  • and more

Every day, law enforcement officers are called upon to make a split-second decision that is life-changing; one that will be questioned and reviewed over and over again.  With the FOP Legal Defense program, our members are secure knowing the FOP stands behind every member, one-hundred percent of the time.

Our Lodge is nearly 2,000 members strong; making us the largest lodge in the state of North Carolina.

Join our brothers and sisters and become a part of the Fraternal Order of Police.

The FOP is the nation's largest and oldest organization dedicated to making the law enforcement profession better for the men and women who serve.  The FOP had its humble beginnings in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, founded by two Pittsburg Police officers tired working 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and with nothing, they could do about it. Those two officers along with 21 others formed the very first FOP Lodge, Fort Pitt Lodge #1 on May 15, 1915. Today, the tradition that was first envisioned over 108 years ago lives on with more than 2,100 local lodges and nearly 375,000 members in the United States. The FOP is made up of proud professionals working on behalf of law enforcement officers from all ranks and levels of government.
